In Tuesday’s (6/17) BinghamtonHomepage.com (NY), Jim Ehmke writes, “The Binghamton Philharmonic has announced its 2025-26 season and it includes a composition by a Native American composer with a tie to the orchestra. The philharmonic will perform a short orchestral piece titled Caprice during its Pops concert on February 28th. Caprice was written by Boyd Eagle, a member of the Nez Perce Tribe in Washington State. Eagle is the maternal grandfather of Music Director and Conductor Daniel Hege. Hege says Eagle was a lifelong musician who played clarinet and trombone and also loved jazz…. The conductor says that as the Philharmonic looks to include more repertoire from underrepresented composers, he suggested this work from his grandfather…. ‘That opportunity is very special. It’s always exciting to breathe life into music anyway and I think the fact that it’s my grandfather is going to be very, very special,’ he says…. The Wichita Symphony, which Hege also conducts, will also premiere the work next February.”
