Philharmonic Pops concert a Binghamton gem
It was an upbeat evening at the Binghamton Philharmonic Pops concert. The stage was barely large enough to hold the entire orchestra. You would not believe how this large group could swing with Duke Ellington, including a sweet trumpet solo that was reminiscent of the big band era.
he program included both recent and some recently discovered compositions, and a heartwarming arrangement of familiar tunes from South Pacific. It concluded with Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever, and my wife commented that she had never heard the piccolo duo sound better.
Maestro Hege described the orchestra as the crown jewel in the Binghamton area's arts scene and commented that this orchestra is both versatile and virtuosic. He predicted that we would leave the Forum walking on air and he was right on all counts. Make it a point to hear this group whenever you can, whatever they are doing, and you will not be disappointed.
