Philharmonic Milestones: Farewell to Our Retiring and Resigning Musicians, and Welcome to Our New Hires!

Principal Trumpet Frank Campos

This season the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra marks a significant chapter in its history as we bid a bittersweet farewell to some of our long-serving musicians, while at the same time welcoming new talents into the orchestra.

After years of dedicated service, the following musicians have announced their retirements or resignations: Frank Campos, principal trumpet; Peter Perfetti, fourth French horn; Karel Sedlacek, second violin; Christy Habetler-Stout, viola; and Einar (Jeff) Holm, cello. These artists' contributions have left an indelible mark on the artistry of the Philharmonic, and they will be greatly missed.

Concurrently, the orchestra is delighted to announce the promotion of several musicians to tenured positions effective at the end of the 2023-2024 season. Shawn Hutchison has assumed the role of second oboe/English horn, while Marti Sweet joins as a tenured violinist. Additionally, violists Marisa Crabb, Nickolas Kaynor, and Brianne Lugo have all been granted tenure, and Mario Pietra has received a tenured appointment in the bass section.

Moreover, the orchestra welcomes a cohort of promising probationary musicians hired during the 2023-2024 season. Zachary Gassenheimer brings his talents to the clarinet section, Morgan Chalmers to French horn, and Conrad Alexander to percussion. The violin section welcomes Youjin Choi, Rowan Harvey, Yi-Ting Kuo, and Fiona Lloyd-Aikman, while Grant Rieke enriches the viola section.

We are grateful to our retiring musicians for their years of service, and delighted to welcome so many excellent new players into our Philharmonic family. These appointments underscore the orchestra's commitment to ongoing excellence and innovation, promising a vibrant future filled with exceptional performances and artistic achievements.
